MEASURE “A” WAS DEFEATED

The voters said "NO MERRY-GO-ROUND" in our town council

The city council (not voters) put Measure “A” on the ballot which for most people was reason enough to Vote NO on Measure “A”.  Measure "A" was not reform, it was a COUNCIL POWER GRAB and not good for the city and it's residents.

  • Measure “A” would have consolidated the existing council majority power. That is why the council majority put it on the ballot.

  • Measure “A” takes a two-year seat for our ELECTED mayor, and makes it a four-year COUNCIL seat, thus taking away some of the residents power to install or remove an elected official of our choice.  We would have council members "rotate" into position, not good for the city.  Desert Hot Springs has enough Merry-Go-Rounding in it's politics, it's time to STOP.

  • Supporters of Measure “A” want you to believe measure “A” will magically make the city council Majority behave itself. If you believe that, the people in Indio can tell you a thing or two.  Indio has a rotating mayor like is proposed under Measure “A”. Indio voters elected a candidate to city council and expected that when it was his turn to be mayor that he would become the next mayor. Guess what! The council majority voted to pass him over and appoint someone else mayor. The result was more infighting leading to embarrassing media coverage and more problems.

  • If given the choice between the voters electing our mayor and our city council appointing our mayor, it is the voters that should be trusted.

Desert Hot Springs residents voted NO on measure “A”
